This exhibition project, in which different social groups from La Jonquera and students from the INS La Jonquera have collaborated, aims to recover, and at the same time give relevance to, the individual and collective memory of the migrations registered in the municipality of La Jonquera over the last 80 years.

The focus is divided between the two major migratory flows: that of the 1950s and 1970s, formed basically by people from the south of Spain, with a special preponderance for the Malaga municipality of Arriate, and, secondly, the migratory avalanche that occurred between the late 1980s and the 2000s with people who came from different international destinations (Morocco, Romania, Central America, etc.).

The exhibition explores, with different references and resources, from the witnesses themselves, the aspects that have conditioned or accompanied their migratory experience: the socio-economic context of the areas of origin, the decision to leave, the conditions under which the journey was made, the reception in La Jonquera and the cultural and identity residue that endures from their place of origin.

The exhibition is curated by historian Lluís Serrano, photographs by Josep Ribas, Robin Townsend, Teo Corominas, Josep Maria Montal, Jordi Casals (Meli) and historical collections from the CRDI (Aj. de Girona), designed by Pep Canaleta and Jordi Claveria, sponsored by the Grupo Tramuntana and in collaboration with the INS La Jonquera, the Josep Peñuelas del Río school, the municipal school of Music of La Jonquera and Casal de l'avi de La Jonquera. Precisely, thanks to the participation of the Tramuntana Group, the exhibition will have an extension with portraits of people from Jonquera made by Elisenda Raurich, along Carrer Major.
